SUNSET
WHITE ROCK
Sunset house boasts commanding views towards White Rock beach and Semiahmoo Bay. Some existing design flaws sparked the idea of renovating this newer home. The aesthetic was converter from blandish yellowing spec build to a more exciting contemporary beach house with a modern cape cod colour scheme. Each aspect of this build involved critical planning and design while displaying a high level of craftsmanship throughout. All material selections needed to meet the aesthetic and withstand the harsh coastal environment.
The corner lot, side road access, allows for unobstructed views towards the bay. The West façade consisted on cultured stone, stucco and silver metallic sheet metal. New overhead doors and wood trellis draws you toward the covered entry.
A variance was approved to extend the south walls closer towards the water. A 16’ wide sliding door opens to a second story deck off the kitchen. A patio area with BBQ, fireplace and infrared heater provides a cozy outdoor living space.
The entire landscape was re-sculpted including a new paver-stone driveway, shrubs and rock features along with concrete retaining walls, which helped to level out sections of the yard.
A steel moment frame was fabricated and erected onsite to provide the rough opening for the new patio door during construction.
Heavy timbre beams were craned in to support the upper decks. Steel knife plates were fitted onsite to conceal the structural connections. The exposed wood beams were then stained to protect against weather.
